I rarely make them. They must be realistic and not wishful. If you are large sized and heavy you will never be tiny.
Personally, I just live life one day at a time. Being the best I can be. I find to break a habit, you have to replace it with something else, and dont stop trying. In other words dont stop quiting. Or starting again.
I NEVER make resolutions because they NEVER work. Instead I pick and set three intentions. I then write down each intention and beneath it three ways in which I can reach my goal of success. One can never handle more than three intentions and expect them to be successful, If one gets off track then figure out a way to come back to the suggestions beneath the intention to be successful and perhaps figure out a new way to make your intention successful. And realize that NO ONE reaches their set intention easily without having to re-evaluate it many times. Happy and Healthy New Years to all my friends here.
I stopped calling hem resolutions and now call them intentions. There is so much pressure on the word resolution and when people do not keep them, they often then feel the guilt of failing which only makes matters worse. I also believe in the SMART goal idea. Set intentions that you know are attainable for you on a daily basis and for the long term. Short term goals are fine but they make it too easy to fall back into old habits. It is important to create nutrition and lifestyle changes that you can manage for a lifetime and that is what will lead you to sustainable health.
I use the S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely) method when developing my resolutions.
What exactly will you do?
How well you know if you meet your goal?
What steps are you going to take to reach your goal?
What about your goal makes it important to you?
When do you want to complete your goal?
