Can Prometrium During Pregnancy Cause Peanut Allergy?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I read today that prometrium has peanut oil in it. I read it in an article that was listing medications to stay away from if you have a peanut allergy.

Well I took prometrium during most of my pregnancy with my daughter. In November my daughter tested positive for a peanut allergy. Now I'm wondering if there is a link between the two.

Anyone else take this medication and now your child has a peanut allergy? Or have you heard about this before?

Lorraine that is not strictly correct. infants are born to be allergic and their bodies react to some trigger, peanut allergy is just a more common allergy, along with others. I rarely eat nuts or peanuts, but my son is allergic to them. Along with many other allergies
. I used to think my son was egg allergic because I DIDNT eat eggs while pregnant. Recent research more leans that way now.
The huge wave of children with peanut allergy born from non atopic parents started after the advice to avoid peanut during pregnancy.
Advice that didnt have any firm basis from studies and research by the way.
This group of children was one of the factors that gave Prof Gideon lack and others the idea for the LEAP study. Infant feeding recommendations are changing as a result.
One thing we must consider as parents is that allergies are not our fault and no one can pin point any real reason why our children are allergic.

No. current thinking says that eating peanuts during pregnancy and lactation reduces the risk, hence the change of advice re eating them during pregnancy.
