Does Anyone Get Light-headed As A Symptom?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve had itchy mouth, wheezing, instant diarrhea when eating strawberries, although blood testing was negative. Today an apple made me feel light-headed, and “just not right.” My husband thinks it’s just anxiety (maybe it is). Is anyone else affected this way?

I definitely have problems with being light headed with allergic reactions (although it is usually one of my reactions to inhaling my airborne triggered food allergies).

Strawberries is one of those foods I react to in the air as well as ingestion.

Along with the light headed feeling, I can also become confused. I have a secondary medical health condition that might be causing this problem though, since it triggers when I have an allergic reaction.

With allergies it is best to trust yourself and document new reactions and the food suspected of triggering the reaction. Unless the reaction is severe that first time, sometimes it OK to try to investigate to confirm that the food you thought was triggering the problem was really the problem and caused the reaction.

Because Diarrhea is my standard ingestion allergy reaction, I have to be careful to separate out allergic reactions to the flu, food poisoning, medicines that can cause diarrhea, or that day each month my period cycle can cause diarrhea for 24 hours.

There are a lot of things that can cause light headedness. So it might take some work verifying an allergy to apples as the cause.

If I eat something sugary/starchy without protein, that will happen to me without exception. If I have a choice between fruit and low-fat yoghurt or nothing for breakfast I go for nothing because I know from experience I'll be dizzy shortly after breakfast. Also sweating, shaking, nauseous, anxious and with a feeling of impending doom. Maybe try having some protein before the apple, such as egg, meat, fish or even peanut butter?

I do, it's a result of my blood pressure dropping.

strawberies are high in histamine and can tip an allergic person in to a reaction as they have higher histamine than non allergic people. Apple allergy is the most common fruit to cause reactions. often linked to tree pollen allergies , oral allergy syndrome. I disagree with above post as ' unless first reaction is severe try again' is NOT true. Each reaction can be of different levels each time you are exposed. ESp if this is an ige allergy which your reaction sounds like it is. Go and seek medical help from allergy clinic or doctor. Being light headed and wheezing are severe symptoms, and you know your own body.

It's possible that you are not allergic to the strawberry, but to pesticides or fertilizers used to grow them. It's also possible to be allergic to the strawberry seeds but the the fruit itself.
