Sea Salt Allergy
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anybody get a watery, foamy mouth when you eat sea salt? I get violently sick (sweaty, stomach pain, nausea) when I consume sea salt, but doctors won’t listen to me. Can you use an epi pen? It feels like some sort of anaphylaxis.

You know what your symptoms are don't let anyone tell you differently and if you have breathing problems yes you should use your Epi-pen. I am allergic to corn and I can't use/eat anything made from corn (citric acid, corn syrup, and caramel color is just a few) I can't eat chicken, eggs, pork etc anything fed corn, and am told ALL the time that it isn't possible. Listen to your body. Good luck.

I too would use an EpiPen if I felt like I needed it. Drs really have no clue about allergies. I always carry an EpiPen although I’ve never used it. I probably should have at least once even though my throat didn’t close, my blood pressure dropped.

I also am allergic to corn I can't eat anything that is feed corn or any baked goods that has eggs in it. There are more farms these days using corn and soy-free feed. Check out https://healthytraditions.com/ and https://dutchmeadowsfarm.com. they add dextrose to regular salt dextrous is made from corn. Are you allergic to fish and or shellfish? This could be why you are reacting.

I hear that too. I am terribly allergic to corn but eat small bits in some foods. I know exactly how much will cause my BP to drop or my throat to get scratchy. I had a cyst removed in 1989 from drinking corn syrup when I was sick. Of course the more I drank the sicker I got from lemonade and chicken soup. I can't eat eggs anymore although sometime a cookie is ok. I can eat chicken as long as I don't go overboard. My blood work showed NO iGe antibodies for 10 things at all!
