Can developing alpha-gal syndrome trigger allergies to foods not related to alpha-gal, like peanuts and oats?

It's understandable to feel frustrated when new food allergies seem to appear out of nowhere, especially as an adult. While alpha-gal syndrome specifically causes reactions to mammalian products, developing one food allergy doesn't directly cause other unrelated food allergies to develop.

However, adult-onset food allergies can happen independently. Some people do develop multiple new food allergies as adults, though the exact reasons aren't always clear. Your immune system can change over time, making you reactive to foods you previously tolerated.

The symptoms you're describing with oats - hives and tingly lips - are concerning and should definitely be discussed with your allergist. Oats can trigger both IgE-mediated allergies (quick reactions) and non-IgE-mediated reactions like FPIES, which can take hours to days to develop.

Since you're experiencing throat-closing episodes, it's critical to have emergency medication available despite the cost burden. Talk to your allergist about:
* Patient assistance programs for epinephrine auto-injectors
* Generic alternatives that might be more affordable
* Whether your symptoms warrant emergency care before your appointment in 6 weeks

Your allergist can perform comprehensive testing to identify all your food allergens and help you understand what's happening with your immune system.

So sorry to hear Vadercat! But I have wonderful success with Diatomaceous Earth in and outside my home for the parasites! It’s all natural and causes a physical reaction to all insects and arachnids and kills them! The black legged tick and dog ticks are known to cause alpha gal. I have made my own flea and tick powder for my animals along with monthly drops.
I would say I probably have a form of PTSD regarding ticks and mosquitoes.
Are you allergic to BBB olive or grapes seed oils? If not, you can mix in a small amounts of the oil mixed with clove essential oil. I use food grade DE and you can now find it at Walmart among many garden centers. Zero chemicals!
