Severe itching lasting three days that isn't responding to Benadryl really warrants a call to a doctor or allergist as soon as possible. This is especially important since it could be related to a reaction that needs proper evaluation.
In the meantime, here are some things worth considering:
- Hidden tree nut exposure — Have there been any new foods, sauces, spreads, or packaged items consumed recently? Tree nuts can hide in unexpected places like liqueurs, spreads (like Nutella), baked goods, and toppings.
- Nutritional deficiency — Food allergies, especially when managing multiple ones, can sometimes lead to nutrient gaps (like iron or protein), which can affect the skin.
- Scalp or skin sensitivity — Even without a visible rash, an allergic skin response can still cause itching. Since Benadryl isn't helping, a doctor may consider a stronger antihistamine or other treatment. Don't wait too long — three days of severe itching is your body signaling that something needs attention. Please reach out to a healthcare provider promptly. 💛
