Suggestions For Flying With Peanut And Tree Nut Allergies
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have an 8 year old with peanut and tree nut allergies and we are hoping to fly to Disneyworld in April. We have never taken her (and her younger sister who does not have any food allergies that we are aware of) on an airplane. Any suggestions? We will probably stick with Jet Blue, but still know there are risks.

I react to peanuts and tree nuts in the air, so I have to wear a face mask on a plane. This is even when I have notified the Airline, the check in counter, the gate attendant, and the flight attendants of my allergies and the level of severity.

I have been yanked off a plane due to an allergic reaction to Nuts while the plane was getting ready for take off.

I don't react to nuts or peanut butter if I touch them. For those that do, it is recommended that you bring safe wipes and wipe down the row where your child is sitting. Due to this board when the other disabled people board so that you don't have to wipe down the seats and tray tables when other people are already in those seats or rushing to get into near by seats.

If you react to ingesting peanuts and nuts, in theory, if told in advance the airline could in theory provide safe food, but it better to assume it will hurt you and bring safe food with you for your child. I always bring safe food onto planes with me. However, I have many food allergies in addition to nuts and peanuts.

Both of our kids have a peanut allergy (but not airborne). We wipe down the trays and seats well, bring our own food and make sure we have epi pens with us.
