Members expressed deep frustration with the limited treatment options for food allergies, sharing that beyond avoidance and carrying an EpiPen, there are emerging therapies like oral immunotherapy (OIT) and specialized clinics that have reportedly cured food allergies, though these options can be expensive. Several members described practical challenges including unclear restaurant labeling that raises and dashes hopes (especially for children), confusing precautionary allergen warnings that seem more about legal protection than transparency, and family members who dismiss the seriousness of their allergies. A recurring theme was the importance of vigilant label reading, using trusted gluten-free brands, and leaning on community support, with one member generously offering free meal planning and recipe guidance based on 30 years of hospital catering experience.

Yes, all they have for options is to avoid the allergy or epi-pen yourself in the event of exposure. I wish they would find a Solution, not just a reactive choice.

I'm past that stage and now it's on me- I do think there is a treatment to cure it just learned to live with it

There is the food allergy institute in California that has cured food allergies for many. We’ve been researching if this is a route we want to go. It’s really expensive but seems like it will be worth it

Unfortunately, avoidance is the best solution. At least we now have food labels. When I first discovered I had food allergies, they were not required. At least now you have a fighting chance.

Avoidance and lots of label reading. Lots of website reading to memorize what is automatically GF. Hersheys kisses, plain m & m’s, some cheerios and chex cereals. Ore-Ida. Annie’s. Progresso. They say gluten free right on it.
