Are you looking for others who share similar rare food allergies?

You're definitely not alone in dealing with uncommon allergies like corn, oats, and rice. Many MyFoodAllergyTeam members report having these less common allergies.

A MyFoodAllergyTeam member shared: "Both of my grown children and two of our three grandchildren have a corn allergy. My youngest daughter has it the worst. She gets hives the minute she steps outside."

Another member mentioned: "I recently became sensitive to wheat. I basically eat only rice cakes and rice crackers."

These allergies can be particularly challenging because they're not among the top allergens, making them harder to spot on food labels. Corn, for example, appears in many processed foods and additives like maltodextrin, citric acid, and xanthan gum.

Rice allergies are very uncommon in Western populations (affecting 0.7-2% of people), and if you're allergic to rice, you're more likely to be allergic to other grains and certain vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and onions.

Oat allergies can also trigger reactions in people sensitive to other grains. About 33% of children with gluten sensitivity also react to oats and barley.

Managing multiple rare allergies requires careful label reading and awareness that these ingredients hide in unexpected places, including medications, cosmetics, and household products.
