Does Anyone Else Get Hives And Can’t Determine Why?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My hands, fingers, forearms itch like crazy all night long. I have hives all over my arms, shoulders, waist, chest. They come and go so quickly at times. The hives and itchy skin aren’t related, according to my allergist. I’ve been taking 20mg of Claritin AND 20mg of Zyrtec every day and they helped for a while but my symptoms are back again. Doctor prescribed a medication called doxepin and wants me to take two capsules at bedtime and stay on the Zyrtec but stop taking Claritin. I’m not… read more

Any Tips On Navigating The Adult Social World With Food Allergies? Such As Dinner Invites?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm thinking forward 15+ years to when my daughter and her husband get invited to a friend's house for dinner. How would she accept if she doesn't know them well enough to trust their cooking to be safe? Does she just always offer to host? Bring her own food? Eat before coming over?

Does Anyone Have Advice How To Help Others Understand How Severe An Allergy Can Be!?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am newly diagnosed (less than three weeks) and my husband just is not getting how severely allergic I am to shellfish! He made me react twice. The first time was a learning curve! Second time he used a pan and didn't clean it well I used it later to cook land I ended up in the hospital! I know it takes awhile for everyone to learn to live with allergies but does anyone have advice that would help to speed the process along! Thanks so much!!!

What Medical Diagnosis Catagory Do I Fall Into?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been sick for early 12 years. I have so many food intolerances including gluten, sugar alcohols, and even intolerances to facial creams, sunscreens, and just about every topical lotions that absorb into my skin. Recently I purchased a L’Oreal product that was gluten-free and fragrance free but I still broke out in hives and a burning rash. My primary care placed me on prednisone. What in the world is going on with my body? The 25+ doctors over the years have no idea. I’m beyond… read more

Does Anyone Have A Reaction To The Food That Causes A Reaction Hours After Ingesting The Particular Food?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a severe tree nut allergy, and I tried the challenge approach in the allergist's office. After 5 hours I ingested one whole almond, but because I did not show any symptoms in the office he told me I could eat almonds (ha, ha). I didn't have a reaction until 2 hours later. My tongue began swelling. Needless to say, I stay away from all tree nuts!

Where Do I Start?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and my inflammation levels are not coming down. I am waiting to see a Rheumatologist but my one doctor thinks I might have Fibromyalgia as well. A lot of people have told me that I need to try and figure out if something I am eating is causing the inflammation. How do I do the elimination diet? Where do I start?

I agree with a food diary, also noting how you feel after eating whatever it was you ate. Just note that you may have delayed reactions, such as a few hours until the next day. For example, I am… read more

How Accurate Are SPTs?
A MyFoodAllergyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with a peanut allergy when I was about 18 months old. My mom gave me peanut butter on crackers, but I didn't eat the snack, I just played with it and broke out in hives. She gave me a bath and the hives went away. I had a skin prick test when I was about 3 that confirmed a peanut allergy. I've never had a reaction to any food since, but I've also avoided all peanuts and nuts. I will usually eat food that says "May Contain Peanuts" on the label. I've never had an itchy mouth… read more
