Claritin-D is a medication used to treat allergy symptoms and sinus congestion. Claritin-D is available over the counter in most states, but only by prescription in certain states. Claritin-D is a combination drug composed of Loratadine and Pseudophedrine.

Loratadine is an antihistamine. Loratadine is believed to work by blocking the action of histamines (chemicals associated with allergic reactions) in the body. Pseudophedrine is a decongestant. Pseudophedrine is believed to work by causing the blood vessels to constrict, reducing swelling in the sinus passages.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Claritin-D includes a warning that people who have diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma, heart or thyroid disease, or prostate problems, as well as those who experience nervousness, insomnia, or dizziness while taking the medication, should consult a physician regarding its use.
